Turkey increased its employment rate in the construction sector in January-August 2021, Yeni Shafak newspaper reported.

The newspaper added that accelerated investment and production to meet deferred demand had increased employment.

The industry struggles to find skilled workers for about six months. Construction companies, which are developing new projects, stress that more staff will be needed in the coming months.

The increase in employment was also reflected in the numbers. While the number of paid employees in Turkey increased by 9.4% during the period of August 2020-2021, construction growth was three percentage points higher than this.

The number of paid employees in industry, construction and commercial services, which exceeded 12.5 million in August 2020, increased 9.4 percent or to 13.7 million people in during the same month of 2021. In August alone, there was a 9.4 -% growth in employment rates in the industrial sector, 12.5% in construction and 8.8% in business services.

BOSS4 Real Estate President Abdulkadir Akkush said the buoyancy of the construction sector started with the acceleration of vaccination.

He pointed out that the contractors had started to implement the orders obtained in 2020 when the pandemic was announced.

Akkush added that their four projects are still ongoing and around 400 people are working on construction sites, including 80 people in the technical team.

“Many entrepreneurs are also implementing their projects. When construction starts, it also affects employment, ”he said.

Demir Inshaat company boss Hamit Demir said the construction sector, which was going through a difficult period, began to revive with the mitigation of the pandemic, and this situation has boosted construction sites.

“We are working to quickly transform the projects we have into licenses. This is reflected in employment. The start of construction means employment for 2,000 to 3,000 people. There is a quest for support staff at the Deputy General Manager. With the increase in the license, the number of employees reaches 2 million, ”he added.
