Target employment rate for people with disabilities up 40%: Wong


In 2021, the group’s employment rate increased by two percentage points.

The target for employment rate of people with disabilities was increased to 40% by 2030 from the previous target of 30% as government became more inclusive for the group, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong said.

In a speech at the 2022 Inclusive Business Forum at the Mediacorp Campus, Wong said about 10,000 additional group members were hired last year, adding that they will continue to improve inclusiveness in their company. .

“We can definitely make a difference and get more companies to join us in providing jobs for people with disabilities and reaching 40%. Hopefully we can achieve it even before 2030, and we can set an even higher goal after that,” he said.

Recent government figures showed that the current employment rate for people with disabilities rose to 30% in 2021.

According to research by SG Enable, the focal agency for disability and inclusion in Singapore, implementing disability inclusive practices will provide a greater sense of purpose and higher retention rates.

Wong said there are already more companies accredited with the Enabling Mark, a national accreditation by SG Enable, which honors companies for their “best practices and outcomes in inclusive employment for people with disabilities.
