Links learning to performance in the global transformation of learning
LONDON and new YORK and TEL AVIV, Israel, November 17, 2020 / PRNewswire / – When BT sought to reinvent the in-house training offering it offers to employees, the focus was on the experience of colleagues and the impact on the business. To bring this project to life, BT chose to make Centrical one of the pillars of the initiative. It was the result of a testing and learning program that allowed the company to connect engagement, learning and performance in one real-time tool.
âBT has transformed what was a fragmented learning landscape into a single, cohesive ecosystem. The goal is to enhance the learning experience of our 150,000 employees and contractors across the organization at the global scale, “said Lisa blewitt, Director of Learning and Capabilities at BT. “The goal of this multi-year effort is to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of learning to increase performance.”
Previous programs have not achieved this goal for two reasons. First, engagement in learning activities was low, in part due to a lack of intrinsic motivation to elicit engagement. Second, employees were not applying the learning to their jobs. Along with this, it was realized that the delivery of learning content needed to be done more quickly to make it easier for employees to connect to learning to absorb, adopt and apply it.
“We saw that maintaining the status quo would not adequately advance the knowledge and skills of our colleagues or, more importantly, their performance at work. We were looking to link learning to results,” said Asi DeGani, Senior Director of BT, Digital Design, Platforms and Transformation. âA complete overhaul of BT’s approach to employee learning and development – especially in the midst of a pandemic – was needed and Centrical made a difference. ”
As in many organizations, the shift from office workers to work from home (WFH) has accelerated BT’s use of digital training mechanisms, including Centrical’s personalized microlearning. The method of delivering small learning to the right people, in the right way, at the right time has already shown its value in the test & learn program and is expected to have an impact on overall training at BT.
BT employees involved early in the learning transformation were motivated to usually follow the learning and then repeat activities aimed at increasing their proficiency and skills. Centrical’s advanced gamification brings an element of competition to the learning experience that serves to increase engagement and activity completion as well as enhance the application of knowledge to job performance. With the pandemic physically separating employees, this social competition has helped them feel connected, part of a virtual team, and able to manage the WFH more productively.
âIn this age of telecommuting, employees need to be responsible for their growth and impact,â said Gal Rimon, Founder and CEO of Centrical. âAs such, their organization must deliver an exceptional and personalized user experience that supports their growth and makes them the center of their business success.
âThe Centrical platform helps BT promote performance and support a learning culture by engaging employees with learning tailored to their individual growth goals, through a guided and personalized experience. Centrical is proud to partner with its partner, SAP®, to work with BT on this vitally important initiative, âsaid Rimon.
Centrical technology easily integrates with major business systems, including SAP® SuccessFactors® Learning, where its gamified learning capabilities increase engagement with their learning management system. Centrical captures and analyzes a wide range of data streams to provide a 360-degree view of employees so they know in real time, and their managers, how they are doing and what needs to be done to take them to the next level, including Understand the knowledge gaps that need to be filled by training in order to achieve learning and performance KPIs.
