Bulgaria’s unemployment rate remains at a record high of 4.2% in July


SOFIA (Bulgaria), Aug 15 (SeeNews) – Bulgaria’s registered unemployment rate in July stagnated at the June level of 4.2%, the lowest figure on record, the Agency for employment.

In annual terms, the unemployment rate fell by 0.8 percentage points (pp) in July, the government agency said in a monthly statement.

At the end of July, there were 139,215 registered unemployed in Bulgaria overall – a negligible increase of 416 from June, mainly due to additional registrations of Ukrainian refugees with temporary protected status. The number of registered unemployed decreased by 15.7% in annual terms.

As many as 20,362 people registered as unemployed last month, down 89 from July last year and a monthly drop of 1,698.

A total of 12,885 unemployed people found jobs with the help of employment offices in the seventh month of 2022, compared to 17,856 in the same month of 2021 and 22,744 in June of the current year, according to previous statements.

The processing industry contributed the most to employment in July, with 18.7% of vacancies filled, followed by the state administration with 12.9% and the hotel and catering sector with 12.6%.

During the month under review, 11,268 job vacancies were registered with employment agencies, compared to 22,417 in June. The processing and hospitality industries accounted for the highest number of posted vacancies, 25.4% and 15.3%, respectively.
